Pfleger Women's Center Dedication

Tuesday, December 15, 2026
10:00 am12:00 pm

CRI-Help invites you to the dedication and ribbon cutting of the Pfleger Women’s Center, home of the Marlene R. Nadel and Jack S. Bernstein Buildings.

Funded by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) as a Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP) Round 3 project, the center marks a milestone investment in Los Angeles’ behavioral health infrastructure. It expands access to recovery with 30 new gender-specific residential SUD treatment beds for women across two buildings, giving women a dedicated space to heal alongside peers who share their experiences.

“For years, we recognized the importance of gender-specific treatment, but the resources to make it possible simply weren't there. Today, we're able to create the kind of treatment environment that Jack and Marlene championed throughout their careers. It's a meaningful step forward for the women we serve.” — Brandon Fernandez, CEO, CRI-Help

Since 1971, CRI-Help has provided first-class substance use disorder treatment to adults and families across Los Angeles. The Pfleger Women’s Center carries that work forward.

About the Marlene R. Nadel Building

The 16-bed Marlene R. Nadel Building honors Marlene Nadel, who first came to CRI-Help in 1971 at age 22 seeking recovery from addiction. She went on to dedicate more than five decades to the organization, including many years as Director of Client Services. Today, she continues to help others as a Peer Support Specialist. Her name on the building celebrates a remarkable journey from client to leader and a lifetime devoted to helping others find recovery.

About the Jack S. Bernstein Building

The 14-bed Jack S. Bernstein Building honors Jack Bernstein, who arrived at CRI-Help in the early 1970s struggling with heroin addiction. After finding recovery, he devoted more than 50 years to the organization, eventually serving as President / CEO for over 40 years. His legacy reflects CRI-Help's founding principle of one addict helping another.
